I would say this demo is everything I always expected from Crystal Dynamics and never got from them. No white ledges, i can give you that, but level design wise DOX is really close to the first era of Crystal's TR. Overreacting much? I mean the game is good but IMO is not that different from what we got from Anniversary. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, it has been an absolute pleasure to play DOX. The feeling of actual adventure includes getting lost, trying hard, having to rack your brains in front of a really tricky puzzle, feeling horrified when a dangerous animal brutally attacks Lara (I REALLY loved how brutal the enemies in DOX are, I was actually screaming out loud during the first tiger attack and after realizing that they actually followed Lara into the water) etc. I prefer the "ice queen Lara" that we began with, it will always be the original and real Lara to me. We don't think: "I have to get Lara through that door." We think: "I have to get through that door." This is, I think, something Crystal never actually realized: the players want immersion and the feeling of actual adventure, they don't want to watch a movie. That is what the players want: to be able to identify with the character, not that s*** that Crystal made with TRReboot when they talked about that the players will "feel like they want to protect Lara". The feeling of survival because you're on your own. We players don't want or need to be patronized.)Īlso, DOX really catches the feeling of old Tomb Raiders which I would describe like this: you're just thrown in the middle of nowhere, with no hints as to what to do and where to go, and you're just expected to figure everything out by yourself.

(I always felt Crystal tried their "best" to prevent TR players to ever get frustrated with anything, maybe except for the final bosses. Which is, in a nutshell, a game that doesn't play itself for you, doesn't offer a year long cutscene every two minutes and doesn't assume that the player is a complete idiot who has to be guided through every little tiny bit with white ledges, shimmering objects and icons (press this, go here, do that) and Lara mumbling to herself "I think I have to do this thing here" all the time, spoiling the authentic fun of exploration and the joy of discovery.
Tomb raider 2 remake fan for free#
You can download version 1.2 of the Tomb Raider: The Dagger of Xian demo for free here.I would say this demo is everything I always expected from Crystal Dynamics and never got from them. Hopefully this means no big wigs will swoop in and steal this gem from under our noses. As long as it remains not-for-profit, of course. Other great news which has surfaced is that Crystal Dynamics itself has actually granted their blessing for this fan-led remake of the game.
Tomb raider 2 remake fan update#
The best part of the update is definitely the Photo Mode, which fans have been having a lot of fun with. And their Unreal Engine 4 overhaul of Tomb Raider 2 was already looking phenomenal before this. Judging by the change log for this recent version update, Nicobass and the rest of the team behind the project have been hard at work making improvements to their work.
